Ending is New Beginning
Rev. Bryan Kim
When an event comes to an end, there arises a new event. By trimming bamboo tree, it gives them a chance to grow taller. Just like that, I was able to witness an event closing and a new event arising to take its place. I have served as a Supporting Director of the GP (Global Partners) International Board of Supervisors. Last week, pastors who served as the Board of Directors of GP were convened to restructure the organization’s various Evangelism ministries. The GP, which is probably the largest missionary organization among Korean mission agencies, was restructured focusing on strengthening the ministry of each region, and eliminated the current structure of international delegation. Missionary “J” was a veteran missionary who led the mission in Russia for 2 terms, and served as the Director of S. Korea region and the international Director. One might have expected missionary “J” to have felt emptiness and a huge burden being lifted after stepping down from the international director position, but missionary “J” made a new vow to return to the mission field until he retires. Under the new organizational structure and without the leadership of an international delegation, a plan had to be made on how to progress ahead. When you travel to Israel, you can see road signs or landmarks in Hebrew, Arabic, English and Russian, this indicates the large number of Russian Jews who have migrated from Russia. The fact is, there are about 1.5 million Jewish migrants from Russia who have moved to the nation of Israel. As we end our support for the international director we decide to form an alliance to create a new ministry to reach out to these Russian Jewish migrant people in Israel. We realize that there are still many unreached people who have not heard the Gospel in the Russian continent. Everyone knows, evangelizing the Jewish people is one of the most difficult tasks, and God has opened up a path of evangelizing the Jewish Diaspora living in Russia, and that God is leading these people to Israel, and we have been lead to focus efforts towards that ministry. During the past week’s meeting, one would have thought it was a time to say good-by and to “Thank you for your hard work.” When missionary “J” announced that he would return to the mission field till his retirement, all the Pastors gathered all agreed to support missionary “J” to the end. There was a sense of great power being added on to missionary “J”.
In a place where all things appear to come to an end, as long as there are people who are willing to collect their hearts together, God creates a new vision of mission. By working through those who are cheering on silently, God is starting a new mission for those who remain faithfully. Do not be disappointed because a ministry is coming to an end. Reinforcement help comes from God who has ‘set aside’ many people just so a new ministry can arise. God will ‘set aside’ those who will not give up, have the ‘will’ to continue, and to find a new path together. That is why I believe I have the gift in hope of ‘Waiting’. I do not stop at the end of my path, but I continue to dream of new works of God with the people God has ‘set aside’ for His great plans. Even if there is no one at the end of my journey, I know for sure there is at least one person who is waiting for me, and that person is Christ Jesus! Do not be afraid because you can see the end of your path. I pray that you will take the steps of Faith in strength toward the new work with people that God has ‘set aside’.
