코로나 19 바이러스로 인해 전 세계가 하나의 지구촌임을 실감나게 합니다. 눈에 보이지 않는 바이러스가 국경이 무색하게 넘나들며 번져가는 모습에 다들 속수무책인 듯합니다. 국가 간 아무리 담을 치고 입국 수속을 까다롭게 해도, 바이러스는 비자도 없이 글로벌 앤트리 통과입니다. 한국에서 슈퍼 전파자로 알려진 확진자는 이단 신천지 신도인데, 같이 예배드린 사람들 중에 감염자가 무더기로 쏟아져 나왔습니다. 문제는 이 분의 동선 파악인데 직업상 다단계를 하는 사람이라 얼마나 많은 사람을 만나고 다녔는지 알 수 없고, 그 범위가 특정 지역을 넘어 전국으로 번져 나갈 것이 염려되는 상황인 것 같습니다. 마지막 때를 예언한 다니엘서는 “많은 사람이 빨리 왕래하며 지식이 더하리라. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge”(단12:4)고 했는데, 오고 가는 것이 빈번해지고 그 속도도 빨라지는 것이 왜 재앙으로 이어질 수 있는지 이번 바이러스 사태를 보면서 더욱 실감하게 됩니다.

이번 일로 슈퍼 전파자가 속한 신천지 이단의 모습이 언론에 다소 노출 되면서, 청와대 홈페이지에는 ‘신천지 예수교 증거장막 성전(신천지)의 강제 해체를 청원하는 의견이 올라오고 있습니다. 취재진에 의해 그들의 예배 실황이 언뜻언뜻 모자이크 처리되어 보이는데, 그들의 모습이 얼마나 낯설게 느껴졌는지 모릅니다. 그중 하나가 무대 위에 서 있는 자들이 모두 유니폼을 입고 있는 것입니다. 왼쪽 오른쪽으로 일사 분란하게 움직이는 몸동작이 북한 군인들이 퍼레이드를 하는 느낌 이었습니다. 사람들은 왜 저런 데 가는 걸까, 왜 저들은 개인의 자율을 상실한 영혼없는 미소를 지으며 저렇게 노래를 하고 있는 걸까 라는 생각이 듭니다. 성경 말씀의 올바른 선포가 없으며, 결과적으로 성령의 자연스러운 새 생명의 역사가 없는 기독교를 가장한 이단. 그곳에는 인간적인 체면과 조직력, 그리고 거짓 교리의 강압과 공포에 끌려가는 영혼들이, 바이러스에 무방비로 노출된 모습처럼 안타까웠습니다.

혹시 우리 교회를 방문하여 예배드리는 분들 중에 그런 느낌을 받는 분 들은 없을까 생각해 보았습니다. 제가 유니폼에 거부감을 느끼듯, 성가 대원들이 입고 있는 가운에서 그런 거부감을 느낄 수 있지 않을까 싶습니다. 저는 개인적으로 가운을 입은 성가대가 평생 보던 모습이라 전혀 어색하지 않습니다만, 색깔 정도만 비슷하게 통일하여 그 안에서 표현의 자유로움과 동시에 절제된 균형이 묻어나는 모습으로 찬양해도 좋겠다는 생각을 조심스럽게 해 봅니다. 아마 담임목사부터 주일에 넥타이를 풀어야 가능할지도 모르겠습니다.

While Praying for the Country…

Coronavirus makes us realize just how small this global world has become. We are seemingly helpless to this virus, invisible to naked eyes, that crosses borders effortlessly. Even if we build walls between countries or make border-crossing process difficult, this virus passes through global entry without a VISA. The first confirmed case in Korea was a member of a Shincheonji cult. There were slew of infected from people who have worshiped with this person. The problem is grasping this person’s movement since he travels for work, which caused multi-level of contacts with people, making the spread nationwide and not limited to a region. The end-time prophesy in Daniel said, “Many will go here and there to increase knowledge”(Daniel 12:4). It became more real, in seeing this virus incident, how speed of travel can become disastrous.

With the first case of infection being associated with Shincheonji cult, which brought exposure to the press, there are petitions being posted on Blue House website to force ban on ‘Shincheonji Temple of Jesus Christ’. Montage of video segments of their worship is played and it feels very much foreign to me. One of them is that everyone on the stage were wearing uniform and moving left and right in unison and it felt much like North Korea’s military parade. Why would people go there? Why are they singing with lifeless smiles without individual freedom? It is a cult disguised as Christianity. There is no correct proclamation of the Bible. Natural work of Holy Spirit that results in new life is not there. They are just human organization to save face. It was frustrating to see defenseless souls being exposed to false teachings of coercion and fear, like virus.

I wonder if there are people visiting our church that may feel that way. Like I had an aversion to the uniform, I wonder if our choir gown may give off that feeling. Personally this is not an unfamiliar image since I have seen choir in gowns all my life. However, I cautiously wonder, instead of uniform gown, maybe it would be nice if we can make the color the same showing some restraint but keep individual expression of their attire. Perhaps, this may only be possible if senior pastor can stand on pulpit without a tie.
