이미 알려진 바대로 바이러스는 하나의 세포로 이뤄진 박테리아와는 달리, 단백질과 핵산으로 이루어진 유전물질 DNA 또는 RNA의 구조로 되어 있는데 코로나 바이러스는 RNA 구조에 가까워 다양하게 변이를 일으키기 때문에 예측이 어렵다는 것입니다. 영적으로 보면, 우리가 사는 이 세상에 코로나 바이러스가 창궐하여 변이를 일으키는 것처럼 영혼의 바이러스인 죄 역시 세상에서 교묘하고도 치명적인 변이를 일으키고 있습니다. 죄는 우리의 삶에 침투하여 영혼을 병들게 할 뿐 아니라, 도덕성과 영성을 파괴하며 가정과 교회, 사회를 무너뜨리고 병들게 만듭니다. 급기야 이 죄는 서서히 우리를 영원한 죽음에 이르게 합니다. 또한 놀라운 것은 이 죄는 계속된 변이를 일으켜 더욱 차원 높은 변종을 만들어 낸다는 것입니다. 더 악랄하게, 더 음흉하게 그 모습을 바꿔 갑니다. 최근 뉴스를 보면 얼마나 기상천외한 방법으로 하나님을 대적하는지 모릅니다. 죄는 코로나 바이러스와 너무도 닮았습니다. 아무도 모르게 잠입하여 때로는 무증상으로 전파되고, 지속적인 변이로 활동합니다. 그러나 인류가 코로나에 대응하여 할 수 있는 조치는 고작 마스크를 쓰고 사회적 거리를 유지하고 지속해서 손을 씻는 것뿐 이듯 죄에 대하여 영적으로 대처할 방법은 매우 제한적입니다. 근본적으로 취해야 할 조치는 무엇일까요?
전문가들은 면역력을 강화하고, 집단면역을 길러내야 한다고 합니다. 그렇다면 우리의 영적 면역력은 무엇일까요? 우리의 영적 면역력은 기도입니다. 하나님께 간구하고 기도할 때, 악은 분별 됩니다. 악을 거부할 힘과 능력이 우리에게 주어집니다. 근본적인 죄악의 치료제는 오직 예수 그리스도의 십자가 보혈뿐입니다. 이스라엘 백성이 출애굽 때, 장자가 모두 죽는 열 번째 재앙을 맞았지만, 문설주에 어린양의 피를 바른 자들은 살았습니다. 죄의 근본적 치료는 오로지 예수 그리스도의 보혈밖에 없는 줄 믿습니다. 아무리 죄악이 변이를 일으키고 변형을 일으킨다고 할지라도 이길 힘은 기도와 예수 그리스도뿐임을 기억합시다.
Even If There is a Variant

This past year has been like coming out of a long tunnel of pandemic. Even with starting of vaccine administration over the world, we are hearing some news of concern. There are average of over 314,000 daily infections in India, setting a world record. This increased infections in India caused by 2nd and 3rd variant strands of Coronavirus put us in danger once again. The entire world is being careful of another wave of outbreak. Every nation is prohibiting entry of people from India.
As it is discovered now, this virus is unlike bacteria that is formed from one cell. It is formed from protein and nucleic acid as a genetic material like DNA and RNA. Being closer to RNA, the characteristics of producing variants make it more difficult to predict its future. Similar to Coronavirus outbreaks that cause variants to form, our spiritual virus, sin also creates variants that are cunning and fatal. Sin enters our lives and causes us to become spiritually sick. Moreover, it breaks down our morality and spirituality causing our families, churches, and society to fall and become sick. Eventually, sin slowly brings us to eternal death. What is more amazing is that sin continues to change, making variants that are more deadly than before. It becomes more vicious and insidious. We see in the news how God is attacked in the most unusual ways. Sin is very much like Coronavirus. It enters unknowingly and sometimes spreads without any symptoms. It continues to change. However, our basic effective response to Covid was to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and to wash our hands continuously. Similarly, our spiritual response to sin is also very limited. What are our fundamental steps to take?
Experts say that we need to strengthen our immune system and build the herd immunity. Then, what is our spiritual immune system? Our spiritual immune system is prayer. When we request and pray to God, we can discern evil. We are given strength and ability to deny evil. The only fundamental remedy for sin is the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. During exodus of Israelites from Egypt, there was the tenth plague of death of first born. Those that had blood of young lamb on the doorframe survived. The only fundamental healing of sin is the blood of Jesus Christ. No matter how much sin changes and forms variants, remember the only strength to defeat sin comes from prayer and Jesus Christ.
