Good Seed Vs. Bad Seed

Rev. David S. Park

Spring is known for being the “planting” season. Many seeds are planted during the March and April months so that they can grow during the summer and there can be a harvest in the Autumn months. You would expect to harvest the same fruit or flower from the picture on the seed package. In the movie “Secondhand Lions”, two retired men hosted an orphaned relative boy on their home in the Great Plains. They had acres of land and the nearest neighbor living several miles away, the markets were also far away in small towns. Traveling salesmen would come and sell all kinds of items. Brooms, gadgets, knives, even pet lions! One time a salesman came to sell various seeds packaged in pouches labeled with pictures of fruits or vegetables in individual packs. Excited, the young boy asked if he could purchase some, promising that he would help to farm the produce. “Tomatoes”, “cucumber”, “carrots”, “apples” and “corn” were among his choices. They went to town to get all kinds of gardening tools and equipment. They spent weeks cultivating the land and joyously planted the rows of seeds with the empty packet raised on a stick to identify the plant. After a while, they jumped with joy as the sprouts began to surface. They talked about the kinds of recipes they would have for each day. After a few weeks, they realized that the plants in the separate rows looked all too familiar. They plants all looked exactly like the first row of corn they had planted. The salesman had swindled them. He packaged corn seeds in all of the pouches but with different pictures. The law of the seed is that “you reap what you sow.” Each seed has within it a DNA program that gives the instructions for the type of harvest from that seed. An apple seed will produce apples. A tomato seed will produce tomatoes. We are also seeds that become a harvest. It begins first with our thoughts. Thoughts are a seed. They are planted in our minds and will grow into a harvest. Samuel Smiles said, “Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

What kinds of thoughts are you planting? What kinds of seeds are you planting in others? Are you good seed or bad seed? Do you think that you can plant the same seed and are mistaken to think you can get different results? I pray that our thoughts are seeds with Godly DNA. That regardless of sunshine or rain or storm, the thoughts sown from the Word of God from the pulpit, from QTin, and from the prayers for ourselves and for our children, will reap a destiny of salvation and blessedness. May our words and actions be Christlike in all aspects and reap a harvest of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
