새들백 교회 릭 워렌 목사님은, 부흥을 하나님이 몰고 오는 파도에 비유한 적이 있습니다. 타이밍을 맞춰 서핑 보드에 오르면 그 파도를 탈 수 있지만, 타이밍을 놓치면 오히려 몰려오는 파도에 우리는 밑바닥으로 곤두박질칠 수도 있다고 하셨습니다. 교회에도 하나님이 몰고 오시는 파도처럼 영적 모멘텀이 있습니다. 교회의 영적 리더로 제가 해야 하는 일은, 그 모멘텀에 함께 파도를 타자고 성도님을 격려하는 것입니다. 교회 사역의 모든 에너지는 부흥의 파도를 탈 때라야 출력이 가능합니다. 이럴 때 비로소 자연스러운 성령의 이끄심을 체험하게 됩니다.
엘리야 특별 새벽기도회로 한 해를 시작하면서 역대 최고의 인원이 모여 온 교회가 은혜를 사모하는 특별한 시간을 보냈습니다. 갈멜산에 내렸던 엘리야의 불을 사모하며 “주여, 은혜의 불, 성령의 불을 주옵소서”라고 간절히 부르짖으며 매달렸던 한 주간이었습니다. 무엇보다도 교회 스탭들이 솔선수 범하여서 더욱 큰 은혜를 받으며 새롭게 출발하는 기회가 되었습니다. 주방과 주차 등 교회 곳곳에서 섬기는 분들의 헌신으로, 엘리야 특별 새벽기도회에 참여하는 모든 성도가 영적 비상을 위해 힘차게 밟고 뛰어오른 도약 판처럼 새해 엘리야 특별 새벽기도회는 영적 에너지가 충만한 시간이었습니다. 모두 새로운 각오로 얼굴이 달아올라 있어서 측정기가 있었다면 성도 들의 얼굴색이 확연히 밝아졌음을 알 수 있을 듯했습니다. 예배가 뜨거웠고 기도 소리도 달라졌으며 엘리야 특별 새벽기도 이후 탄력을 받아 평일 새벽 기도에도 더 많은 기도의 용사들이 나와 새벽을 깨우기 시작했습니다. 매년 경험했지만 새해를 시작하며 받았던 은혜로 한 해를 달려왔던 것처럼 올해도 어김없이, 더 풍성하게 쏟아부어 주셨던 충전의 은혜에 감사할 뿐입니다.
부흥의 파도는 이 여세를 몰아 다시 베델로 몰려오고 있습니다. 은혜 위에 은혜가 넘치는 모멘텀이 몰려오고 있습니다. 바로 2주 후에 있을 심령 부흥회 입니다. 이 파도를 타십시다. 아니, 반드시 타야 합니다. 사모함으로 기도하며 준비하십시다. 주의 은혜로 비상하는 에너지로 ‘충전되는’ 시간이 될 줄 믿습니다. 부흥의 파도를 탈 수 있게 준비된 서핑보드에 ‘올라타야’ 합니다. 은혜받는 일에 뒤로 처지지 마십시오. 이번만큼은 적극적인 자세로 뛰어오릅시다. 내 힘으로 발버둥치는 억지가 아닌 엄청난 힘으로 뒤에서 미는 성령의 역사에 뛰어오릅시다. 의사 약속 잡듯 이번 부흥회에 시간을 내어 오십시다. 2중, 3중 주차를 하면서라도 ‘베델, 하나님의 집’을 채웁시다. 모든 성도님이 부흥의 서핑보드 정도가 아닌 항공모함에 탑승하는 타이밍을 놓치지 마십시오. 이번 부흥회에서 충전이 안되면 사용 불가라는 각오로 전원 탑승을 선포합니다.
Do Not Use Without Charge

When I go to sleep, there are few devices I charge like cell phone. I’m not sure since when, but it’s been a while since my nightstand is cluttered with charging cables. If I forget to charge, then I am not able to use the device the next day. In the same way, church ministry requires charging, and timing is very important.
Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren once compared a revival to rushing of waves that God brings. When the timing is right, you can ride the waves on your surfing board, but when you miss that timing, you might plummet to bottom. I believe that, even in church, there is spiritual momentum that God brings like waves. My work, as a spiritual leader, is to encourage you to take the momentum to ride the waves. Furthermore, the energy for church ministry is possible when we can ride the waves of revival. Then we can experience Holy Spirit leading that is not artificial.
We began the New Year with Elijah Early Morning Prayer with record attendance. It was very special as the entire church gathered to long for grace. As we longed for the fire of Elijah that came down on Mount Carmel, for a whole week we cried out, “Lord, let your grace of fire, spiritual fire come down on us.” It was also an opportunity for church staff to set an example of receiving much grace and setting a new start. It was a time full of spiritual energy. With sacrifice of those serving in kitchen and parking, all those in attendance were able to jump on the springboard onto spiritual bound. Every face was lit bright with new resolution. They were definitely brighter than before if they could be measured. The worship was passionate, sound of prayers deepened, and more prayer warriors began coming out to early Morning Prayer meetings. I am thankful for His grace that has charged us this year and, from experience, I know it will keep us running throughout the year as it has done every year.
Waves of revival are, again, putting Bethel on its momentum. This momentum that is full of grace is rushing in. In two weeks we will have a Special Revival. Let’s ride the waves. No, you must ride the waves. Let’s prepare in prayer with longing. I believe it will be a time of recharge that will set us bound for God’s grace. We need to get on the surfboard prepared to ride the waves of revival. Let’s not fall behind in receiving grace. Let’s jump on with eagerness this time. Let’s jump on with the power of spiritual work that is pushing us from behind instead of struggling or being forced. Like making a doctor’s appointment, make sure to set aside time to attend. Let’s double; triple-park and fill ‘Bethel, God’s House’. Let’s not just get on a surfboard of revival, but hit the timing enough to board a huge aircraft carrier. Let’s proclaim all aboard with resolve that if we are not charged at this revival, do not use.
