주위에선 ‘여는 것이 대수가 아니다’는 말씀을 하기도 합니다. 아직 많은 분들이 감염을 무릅쓰고 한 자리에 나와 예배드리기를 꺼릴 수도 있습니다. 저는 예배당을 닫는 결정을 내린 장본인으로, 온라인 예배로 임시 동안 대체할 수 있는 것에 감사하는 동시에 장기간 문이 닫힌 교회에 매일 출근하면서, 하나님 나라 확장을 위해 거리두기를 더 이상 할 수 없는 부분도 있음을 깨닫습니다. 그래서 예배당 문을 열기로 결정하고, 모든 과정을 하나하나 확인하고 점검하며 준비하고 있습니다. 가장 기초적인 준비 작업은 성도님들이 교회에 오는 것을 불안해하지 않도록 하는 것입니다. 이 부분은 성도님들이 신뢰하셔도 될 정도로 만반의 준비를 하고 있습니 다. 먼저 목회진과 예배 진행팀의 안전과 건강을 위해 코로나 바이러스 검사를 마침으로 확실히 했습니다. 그다음으로 중요한 것은 교회에 오시는 성도님들이 서로를 신뢰할 수 있도록 하는 것인데, 이 일을 위해서 저희 목회진들은 주 정부의 권고사항에 따라 매 예배에 오시는 100명의 성도님과 사전에 통화하여 한 분 한 분의 건강과 안전상태를 점검할 것입니다.
지난주 목요일(6월 11일), LA 카운티는 이번 코로나 사태로 문을 닫아 경제적으로 타격을 받은 스몰 비즈니스에 3,000불씩 지원금을 주기로 결정하면서 코로나19 감염 확산 방지, 그리고 소비자 신뢰도를 높이기 위해 “공중보건 규정을 준수하는 것” 뿐 아니라, “백신이 없으면 사업체는 고객이 쇼핑, 외식, 여행 또는 콘서트에 올 수 있도록 설득할 수 있는 방법을 찾는 것”이 중요하다고 밝혔습니다. 저는 이 기사를 보면서 사업체들도 고객들이 오도록 설득하는 방법을 찾는데, 교회도 좀 더 적극적으로 교인들이 교회에 올 수 있는 방법을 찾아야 한다고 생각했습니다. 다들 위기가 닥치면 초대교회로 돌아가야 한다고 말합니다. “믿는 사람이 다 함께 있어… 날마다 마음을 같이하여 성전에 모이기를 힘쓰고 집에서 떡을 떼며 기쁨과 순전한 마음으로 음식을 먹고 하나님을 찬미하며… 구원받는 사람을 날마다 더하게 하시니라”(행 2:44-47). 이런 초대교회 모습으로 회복되기를 기도하며 예배당 문을 엽니다. 아직 100명밖에 모일 수 없고, 교회에 왔는데 도리어 몇 명 없는 썰렁한 예배당 분위기가 부정적일 수도 있습니다. 그러나, 이때 우린 <이미-아직>을 적용하여 100명이라는 <이미>의 씨앗을 심으며 <아직>의 내일을 바라볼 것입니다. 한 시인의 고백 처럼 <아직> 피지 않은 내일의 꽃을 소망 중에 바라며 오늘, 허리 숙여 흙과 뿌리를 살피는 100명의 <이미>를 품고 나아갈 것입니다.
With 100, we are Opening the Place of Worship

In our Hebrews series, I have continued to speak on the image of eschatological church. We live in wilderness era that is between
People around us even say that ‘Opening is not a big deal’. From the risk of infection, many might not be comfortable coming out to worship with large number of people. Personally, as a person who made the decision to close the doors, I was thankful for the temporary solution of online worship. At the same time, coming to work every day to a church with its doors closed for worship, I realize that there are areas that we should not continue to keep distance in order to expand His Kingdom. So, I made the decision to prepare to open with careful consideration and confirmation with every step along the way. The most basic preparation is to make sure that congregation coming to church will not feel anxious. You can trust us when we say that we are doing everything possible to prepare for this. We have first confirmed that all pastoral staff and worship team are free of infection through testing. What is important is that others can trust people in attendance. For this, our pastoral staff, in accordance with the state recommendation, will contact by phone to confirm health and safety of those 100 people who will be attending.
LA County decided on June 11(Thurs) to give $3000 support to small businesses that had to close and have been hard hit economically. They also mandated “Restriction measures to prevent infections of Covid 19 and, to increase consumer confidence, businesses must be in compliance with public health regulations”. They also spoke importance of “finding ways to convince customers to shop, dine, travel, and to attend concerts while without vaccine.” As I was reading this article, I thought about ways for churches to positively encourage people to come to church just as businesses are looking for ways for their customers. We are told, when in danger, we need to return to the early church. “And all who believed were together … And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God … And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”(Acts 2:44-47) We will open doors to worship with prayers of restoration to that of early church. Only 100 will gather. The worship environment may seem negative due to lack of people in attendance. However, we will apply
