한 해를 마무리하는 시즌에 셀 수 없는 감사 제목들이 있습니다. 특별히 올해는 팬데믹이 끝나면서 현장 예배가 회복되어 가는 과정 중이라 이전보다 더 큰 예배의 감격이 넘칩니다. 늘 그랬듯이, 매년 가장 기쁘게 목회했다고 실행위원회 송년 모임 때마다 고백했는데, 어김없이 올해도 그 고백을 자신 있게 할 수 있을 것 같습니다. 찬송가 가사가 떠오릅니다. “세상 모든 풍파 너를 흔들어 약한 마음 낙심하게 될 때에 내려 주신 주의 복을 세어라 주의 크신 복을 네가 알리라…” 한 해를 마무리하는 즈음에 우리에게 주신 복을 세 보려고 합니다.

첫째, 항상 그랬듯이, 한해의 은혜를 저장하는 엘리야 특별 새벽기도회는 중고등부에 코로나가 유행해서 식사 제공은 못 했지만, 처음으로 현장에서 모이게 된 은혜를 잊을 수가 없습니다. 둘째, 아침 영상 500회를 맞이할 때 그로 인해 코로나를 뚫고 나올 수 있었던 또 하나의 힘이 되었던 것을 하나님께 특별히 감사했던 시간이었습니다. 앞으로 하나님이 허락하시면 1000회까지 가보려고 합니다. 셋째, 코로나로 인해 모든 것이 멈춰 섰지만, 성경의 땅, 이스라엘을 밟으며 해외를 향한 선교여행의 첫 기지개를 켰습니다. 여행사에서 말하길 코로나 이후 우리 교회가 처음으로 방문한 팀이라 할 정도로 발 빠른 결정에 교통체증 없이 좀 더 자유롭게 성경의 땅을 돌아보는 특별한 은혜가 있었으며, 수난의 길(Via Dolorosa)에서 특별 촬영한 영상이 고난 주간 특별집회에 의미 있게 사용되면서 모든 교인과 이스라엘 방문의 은혜를 나눌 수 있었습니다. 넷째, 코로나 이후 첫 단기 선교팀을 파송하는 신호탄으로 호세아 선교사님이 사역하는 키르기스스탄을 방문하여 베델 성도들의 헌금으로 지어진 현지 학교 건물을 봉헌하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다. 다섯째, 이민교회의 숙원이라 할 수 있는 온 세대가 함께 나누는 큐티의 꿈을 이루었습니다. 베델 번역팀이 총력을 다하여 “큐티인 영어판”이 출간되어 미주뿐 아니라 세계를 향해 말씀이 뻗어갈 수 있는 발판을 마련한 것입니다. 아울러, 제1회 미주 목욕탕 세미나를 베델에서 개최함으로 영문 큐티 교재가 더 활성화되는 계기가 마련되었습니다. 여섯째, 미래의 크리스천 인재를 양성하기 위해 코로나 시기에 시작된 베델 클래시컬 아카데미(BCA)가 개교 1주년을 맞이하고, 실행이사 및 후원이사회를 결성하며 더 힘 있게 발전하게 된 것입니다. 일곱째, 교회 설립 46주년을 감사하며 교회 역사상 처음으로 조지아에서 베델 선교대회를 개최하여 파송 및 후원하는 모든 선교사님을 초대하여 위로하였고, 향후 10년의 베델 선교비전 선언문을 채택하며 성황리에 마칠 수 있었습니다. 여덟째, 엘리야 특별 새벽기도 외에 처음으로 신학 강좌 및 임직을 즈음해서 두 번 더 특별 새벽기도회를 개최하여 온 교회가 무릎 꿇는 영성을 한층 고양한 것도 큰 은혜였습니다. 아홉째, 추수감사절 행사로 교회 마당에서 감사 토크 콘서트를 가진 것은 쌀쌀해지는 가을에 따뜻한 은혜와 감사를 맛보는 축복의 시간이었습니다. 열째, 교회 설립 후 46년간 함께한 영어 회중(Bethel Grace Church)을 같은 캠퍼스와 하나의 교회학교를 전제로 BGC 시무장로를 안수하며, 완전히 독립시킨 것입니다. 모든 영광을 하나님께 돌립니다.

10 Great Thanks of 2022

There are countless things to be thankful for as we wrap up a year this season. Especially, in the midst of returning to in-person worship with the pandemic nearing an end, we are filled with great emotions as we worship. I said every year at the year-end executive committee meeting, that the year was the most joyful year of ministry. Without exception, I could confidently give the same confession this year. I am reminded of lyric from a hymn. “When upon life’s billows. You are tempest tossed. When you are discouraged. Thinking all is lost. Count your many blessings.” I would like to count our blessings as we get ready to wrap up the year.

First, although we could not provide meals after Elijah Early Morning Prayer due to youth group’s Covid spread during that time, we cannot forget God’s grace as we met in-person worship for the first time since Corona virus pandemic. Second, it was a special time of thanks as we came upon 500th airing of Daily Morning QT video. It gave us much strength to get through the pandemic. If God allows, I would like to get to 1000th. Third, even though Covid apparently had stopped everything, we were able to reach out to foreign mission with a trip to Israel, the Bible land. According to our travel agency, we were the first team to visit since Covid. Because of our early preparation, we were able to travel more freely through the Bible land without traffic congestion. It was God’s special grace. Special video taken on Via Dolorosa road was especially useful in our Passion Week Worships. It was an opportunity to share blessings of visiting Israel with the church. Fourth, the first short-term mission team since Covid was sent out as a flaring light to Kyrgyzstan, Missionary Hosea’s mission field. It was a special time of thanks as we dedicated a school building built with Bethel members’ offerings. Fifth, with great work of our translation team, we were able to publish English versions of QT for all generations. This is an immigrant church’s dream. We distributed not only in the US, but throughout the world. Along with that, we held the 1st SPA Seminar(SPA-Korean acronym for place of pastoral/ shepherd training) in US at Bethel. This was an opportunity to actively distribute English QT publications. Sixth, Bethel Classical Academy(BCA), which was opened during pandemic to develop future Christian leaders, celebrated their 1st anniversary. By forming Executive director and its sponsoring board, the school has grown vigorously. Seventh, our church held its first-ever Bethel Mission Conference in Georgia to celebrate church’s 46th anniversary. We invited our church’s missionaries as well as those we support. We prepared and adopted Bethel Mission Vision Declaration for the next 10 years. Eighth, in addition to Elijah Early Morning Prayer, we added two more special Early Morning Prayers, before Theological Seminars and the lay leader selection. By God’s grace our spirituality was heightened with the entire church praying on our knees. Ninth, we experienced autumn warmth of God’s grace and thanks as we held Sharing Thanks Talk Concert, a Thanksgiving event, at our church courtyard in chilly autumn weather. It was a blessed time. Tenth, Bethel Grace Church(English congregation), became independent since our church was founded 46 years ago. We will still share the campus and Church school. They have ordained a BGC elder. We give all glory to God.
