사도행전 16장에는 바울이 아시아로 가려고 애쓰는 장면이 나옵니다. 물론 여기서 아시아는 한·중·일을 가리키는 것이 아니라 지금의 터키 지역인 소아시아를 말합니다. 그런데 아시아로 가려 던 바울의 발걸음을 성령님께서 가로막으시지요. 하나님께서는 다른 계획이 있으셨습니다. 생각해봅니다. 만약 바울이 아시아로 갔다면 무엇을 했을까? 선교했겠죠. 복음을 전했겠지요. 그러나 그랬다면 그 선교라는 행위가 불순종이었겠구나 싶습니다. 이렇듯 우리는 때로, 심지어 예배 혹은 기도와 찬양이란 형식을 통해서도 불순종할 수 있는 존재입니다. 그러니 단순히 지금 내가 무엇을 행하는가 보다는 이것이 주님의 뜻인가가 더 중요합니다. 내가 아무리 열심히 한다고 해도 주님께서 “가라, 있으라”고 하신 자리가 아니라면 그 열심이 오히려 불순종일 수 있습니다. 그러기에 내 꿈이 아닌, 주님이 부르시는 그곳에 내 삶을 드려야겠다 마음먹습니다. 제가 가고 싶은 곳, 제가 하고 싶은 일보다 주님께서 부르신 곳, 부르신 바로 그 자리에서 사랑하고 섬기는 것이 제 사명임을 다시금 고백합니다.
주님께서 저를 예삶 청년 목장으로 부르셨습니다. 정말 예상하지 못했던 자리입니다. 그러나 저는 이 예삶으로의 부르심을 ‘마게도냐 사람의 손짓’으로 받아들입니다. 마게도냐 사람들의 손짓에 적극적으로 답하며 ‘곧’ 마게도냐로 떠나기를 힘쓴 바울에게는, 하나님의 부르심이 자신의 계획보다 언제나 먼저였습니다. “이는 하나님이 저 사람들에게 복음을 전하라고 우리를 부르신 줄로 인정함이러라”(행 16:10) 바울의 편지에서 ‘인정하다’는 단어는 어쩔 수 없이 승복했다는 뜻이 아니라 하나님의 뜻과 연합함, 완전한 일치의 의미로 사용되었습니다. (엡 4:16; 골 2:2, 19) 바울은 자신의 생각을 하나님의 부르심과 완전히 일치시켰습니다. 저 또한 그렇습니다. 바울이 마게도냐로 떠나기로 힘썼듯, 저도 주님께서 부르신 자리로 제 삶을 드립니다. 내 인생을 위해 주님을 사용하려는 것이 아닌 주님을 위해 내 인생을 드릴 때, 가장 값지고 아름다운 삶이 되기 때문입니다. “Cor meum tibi offero, Domine, prompte et sincere.” (내 심장을 주께 드리나이다. 바로 그리고 신실하게) 생각해보니 제가 맨 처음 베델교회로 지원했을 때, 그 자리가 바로 예삶이었네요.
Urging of Macedonian

When I was contemplating my future in student years, what I had heard and was taught from church was that “It doesn’t matter what you do”. It doesn’t matter what kind of work you are doing as long as you give glory to God through that work. So, do what you enjoy doing. Another words, “Live out your dream!” Now that I think about it, you can’t say that is entirely wrong. It’s not entirely right either.
In Acts 16, you see Paul trying so hard to get to Asia. Of course, Asia here is not China-Korea-Japan, but it is Asia Minor, current Turkey area. However, Holy Spirit stops Paul from going. God had a different plan for him. Let’s think about this. What would Paul have done if he went to Asia? He would have done mission work. He probably would have preached gospel. If he did, then I wonder if his mission work would have been in disobedience. Just like this, we could also disobey time to time through the form of worship, prayer and praise. Therefore, knowing God’s will is more important than what I am doing. No matter how diligent you are at your work, if it’s not a place where God want you to go or stay, your diligence is nothing more than disobedience. Therefore, I set my mind on giving my life to where God is calling me, not on my dreams. I confess that my calling is to love and serve at a place and in a position where God has called me to be, not where I want to go and what I want to do. God has called me to Yesalm (young adult group) Pasture. This is a totally unexpected place.
However, I accept this calling for Yesalm like the urging of a Macedonian for help. Paul answered positively to this urging and ‘immediately’ sought to go to Macedonia. God’s calling always took priority over Paul’s own planning. “…concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”(Acts 16:10) ‘Concluding’ here does not mean that he had no choice but to surrender. In Paul’s epistles, this word was used with the meaning of joined together or perfect unity. (Eph 4:16; Col 2:2, 19) Paul set his thoughts to be in perfect unity with God’s calling. I am the same. Just as Paul sought to go to Macedonia, I too will give my life where the Lord is calling. I believe it will be a precious and wonderful life when I can give my life to God rather than using God for my own life. “Cor meum tibi offero, Domine, prompte et sincere.” (My heart Ioffer to you, O Lord, promptly and sincerely.) Now that I think back, when I first applied to Bethel Church, it was for Yesalm.
