“I-ttitude”라는 2021년 베델이 나아갈 방향과 “믿음의 태도가 신앙의 고도를 결정한다.”는 엘리야 특별 새벽 기도회의 주제가 결정되었을 때 저는 어떻게 저 문구를 청년의 언어로 표현할 수 있을까를 고민하기 시작했습니다. 그리고 곧 주님께서 주시는 마음을 따라 2021년 예삶의 주제를 “믿음의 끓는점을 돌파하라!”로 정하게 되었고 예삶의 목회진들과 함께 이 비전을 나누었습니다.

작년 한 해를 돌아보면 우리의 신앙과 삶은 코로나로 인해 꽁꽁 얼어붙은 바다와 같았습니다. 사실 예삶의 청년들만 보아도 강단에서, 그리고 셀목자를 비롯한 공동체의 리더들이 각자의 자리에서 최선을 다해 청년들을 섬기고 격려하며 신앙의 역동성을 잃지 않게 하기 위해 노력했지만 참 쉽지만은 않았던 것이 현실입니다. 코로나의 한파는 경제뿐 아니라 우리의 신앙도 얼어붙게 했습니다. 베델의 장년 성도님들은 어떠셨는지요?

이런 상황 가운데 2021년 예삶의 청년들은 우리의 모든 선택을 믿음의 온도를 높이는 쪽을 택하기로 결정했습니다. 올해, 예삶의 청년들은 의심이 아닌 믿음을 택합니다. 미움이 아닌 사랑을 택합니다. 자존심이 아닌 용서를 택합니다. 나태가 아닌 헌신을 택합니다. 그럴 때, 그렇게 선택한 하루들이 쌓이고 쌓여 우리의 믿음의 온도를 조금씩 높일 것입니다. 그리고 어느 순간 물이 끓는점을 넘어서듯 예삶의 모든 청년들이 예수님을 만나는 신앙의 결정적 사건을 2021년에는 반드시 경험하게 될 것입니다. 저는 예삶 뿐 아니라 베델의 모든 성도님들이 각자의 삶의 현장에서 홍해 바다가 갈라지는 것과 같은 놀라운 신앙의 경험을 이번 한 해 동안 하게 되길 소망합니다.

이스라엘 백성들이 홍해를 마른 땅과 같이 건넜을 때 그 여정이 위대했던 이유는 바다가 갈라졌다는 기적 때문이 아닙니다. 그 길이 진정으로 위대한 길이었던 까닭은 불기둥, 구름기둥으로 인도하셨던 하나님과 함께 걷는 길이었기 때문입니다. 우리가 걸어가는 길이 우리의 눈으로 볼 때는 평범해 보이고 심지어 초라해 보이기까지 한다 하더라도 그 길이 주님과 동행하는 길이라면 가장 위대한 길이고 가장 영광스러운 발걸음입니다.

2021년, 차갑게 얼어붙은 우리의 내면을 순종이란 도끼로 내리쳐 깨뜨립시다. 믿음의 결단으로 우리 신앙의 온도를 1도씩 높여갑시다! 그럴 수 있다면 우리의 믿음은 끓는점을 돌파하여 하나님만이 하실 수 있는 놀라운 일을 경험할 수 있게 될 것입니다. “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”

Break Through the Boiling Point of Faith!

When a theme was decided for Elijah Early Morning Prayer, “Attitude of Faith Determines Altitude of Faith “, which follows Bethel’s direction for 2021, “I-ttitude”, I began to think about how this could be translated into a language for young adults. God led my heart to choose the Yesalm Chapel’s theme for 2021 as “Break Through the Boiling Point of Faith”. I shared this vision with Yesalm pastoral staffs.

Looking back on last year, our faith and life were like a frozen ocean due to Coronavirus. The reality is that it was not easy. Even with Yesalm young adults, from pulpit to cell leaders, we have put on our best efforts to not lose dynamic faith by serving and encouraging. The wave of Coronavirus has frozen not just the economy but our faith. How was it for Bethel adult members?

Yesalm young adults, in the midst of pandemic situation, decided to raise the temperature of faith in all of our choices for year 2021. This year, Yesalm young adults choose faith over doubt. We choose love over hatred. We choose forgiveness over pridefulness. We choose dedication over slothfulness. Accumulation of each day’s choices will gradually raise the temperature of our faith. Then, there will be a moment when we cross the boiling point. Yesalm young adults will experience a decisive moment of faith of meeting Jesus in 2021. My hope for all Bethel members, not just Yesalm young adults, is that we all will have miraculous experiences of faith in our lives this year.

Israelite’s journey was great not because of parting of the sea when they crossed the Red Sea like dry ground. The real reason for greatness was that they walked with God who led them with pillar of fire and pillar of cloud. The road we are on may seem mediocre or even pathetic in our eyes, but if the road you are on is with God, then it would be the greatest road and the most glorious steps.

In year 2021, let’s break our inner self that has been frozen with ax of obedience. Let’s raise up temperature of faith by 1 degree at a time! Then we will break through the boiling point, and experience what only God can do. “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”
