10월 27일 오늘은 종교 개혁 기념 주일입니다. 507년 전 1517년 10월 31일에 종교 개혁이 일어났습니다. 마틴 루터의 ’95개 조항’은 로마 가톨릭교회의 부패를 고발하며, 구원이 면죄부나 인간의 노력으로 얻을 수 있다는 거짓 교리를 폭로했습니다. “솔라 그라티아”와 “솔라 피데”와 “솔루스 그리스투스”를 기억하며 우리는 오직 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로 은혜에 의해 구원받습니다. ‘교회의 진정한 보물은 하나님의 영광과 은혜의 복음이다.’ 이것이 바로 종교개혁 기념일의 의미입니다.

어제 남가주 시간으로 어두운 밤 10시, 10월 27일 한국 광화문 시청대로 일대에 6만 한국교회와 4천 디아스포라 교회가 ‘한국교회 2백만 연합예배 및 큰 기도회’로 흰옷 입은 성도들이 영적 길갈에 모여 은총과 연합으로 “주여! 한국 교회를 불쌍히 여겨 주시옵소서!” 한목소리와 마음의 할례로 주님 앞에 예배하였습니다. 우리는 현재의 개혁 교회에 있어서 현대적 ‘종교개혁의 날’이 될 수 있는 중요한 기회를 맞이하였습니다. 우리도 진리를 위해 일어나고, 안일함을 거부하며, 이 세대의 변화와 부흥을 주도해야 할 부름을 받고 있습니다. 이제 우리는 관객이 아닌 참여자가 되어, 신앙과 가정, 그리고 공동체의 성스러움을 회복하는 일에 적극적으로 나서야 합니다.

1027은 우리를 다시 일으키는 중요한 기회입니다. 이날은 다음 세대의 순수함과 마음을 지키기 위해 진리에 뿌리내린 기독교 교육을 강조합니다. POP(Promise of Purity)과 어린이 보호법 운동과 같은 이니셔티브는 우리가 더 이상 미룰 수 없음을 상기시킵니다. 이 운동은 우리의 자녀들이 정체성과 목적에 혼란을 겪는 문화로부터 보호받을 수 있도록 성경적 원칙을 지킬 것을 촉구합니다.

이번 현대적 종교개혁의 날은 우리가 반성하고, 갱신하며, 개혁하도록 부르고 있습니다. 이전의 개혁자들처럼 구원은 “오직 은혜, 오직 믿음으로, 오직 그리스도”를 외쳐야 합니다. 10월 31일은 단순한 역사 기념일이나 가을의 축제가 아니라, 세속주의로 어두워진 세상 속에서 복음의 빛을 되찾기 위한 부름입니다. 이제 우리는 REFocus, REForm 하며 하나님의 진리와 부흥을 위해 나서야 합니다. 다가올 세대가 참 자유와 신앙 속에서 살아갈 수 있도록 지금 우리가 기도의 깃발을 들고 일어설 때 유앙겔리온(복음)의 은총과 연합이 일어날 것입니다. 예수님의 복음이 오늘 이날, 1027 유앙겔리온 상륙작전날과 이번 10월 31일의 ‘종교 개혁의 날’에 선포되어 이 시대의 위대한 부흥을 맞이하게 하옵소서!

D-Day 1027: Operation Euangelion

Today, Reformation Lord’s Day, October 31, 1517, 507 years ago, marks the birth of the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther’s 95 theses challenged the corruption of the Roman Catholic Church, exposing the false teaching that salvation could be earned through indulgences and human works. Reminds us that “Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Solus Christus” means that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. One of Martin Luther’s key: “The true treasure of the Church is the Gospel of the Glory and Grace of God.” This is the essence of Reformation Day.

Yesterday, in the dark of night at 10pm here in California, October 27 marked the day where 60,000 Korean churches and 4,000 diaspora churches gathered from Gwanghwamun to City Hall for the ‘Korean Church United- Worship and Prayer Rally.’ Dressed in white, two million believers assembled at this spiritual “Gilgal” in spirit and unity. They cried out in one voice, ‘LORD, have mercy on The Church of Korea!’ Humbled by the circumcision of the heart, they worshiped in the presence of the Lord.” We face a momentous opportunity for today’s Reformed Church to experience a modern-day ‘Reformation Day.’ We too are called to rise for truth, reject complacency, and lead this generation into change and revival. As believers, we cannot sit passively by. We must become participants, not spectators, actively engaged in restoring the sanctity of faith, family, and community.

Today, 1027, we are given a historic opportunity to stand up again. We must refocus on providing sound Christian education that is rooted in the truth of Christ that we may preserve the purity of the hearts and minds of the next generation. Initiatives like our Promise of Purity program (POP) and the Child Protection Act Petition earlier this year, remind us that there is no more time to delay—not tomorrow, but now. We are being called to uphold Biblical principles to protect our children from a culture that confuses their identity and purpose.

This modern-day Reformation Day invites us to reflect, renew, and reform. Like the reformers of the past, we must proclaim and live the Gospel; that salvation is by “Grace Alone, through Faith Alone, in Christ Alone.” October 31 is not just a historical anniversary, or a fall festival, but a call to reclaim the light of the Gospel in a world darkened by secularism. Now is the time to REFocus and REForm our efforts for God’s truth and REvival. If we rise to gather in worship and in prayer now, the grace and unity of “Euangelion (the Gospel)” will awaken, enabling this generation
to live in true freedom and faith in Christ Jesus. May the Gospel of Jesus be proclaimed on this day: 1027 Operation Euangelion and on October 31st “Reformation Day” to mark the next Great Awakening!
