The Appointed Meeting is Inevitable

Pastor Soon Ko Han

There is no such thing as coincidence for anyone in our world. From the moment we were born on this earth, we live through inevitably, connected forever through the links of our encounters. I met Jesus in my childhood and realized God’s love for me. I met the church in my teens and learned about serving. I met my husband in my twenties and learned how to build a family. And in my forties, I met a senior pastor and experienced God’s providence and the revival of the church through his leadership. Believers ask, “How do you bear the burden of this ministry of serving people?” First, it is because I met Jesus. Secondly, is because I met good and faithful partners in ministry. And thirdly, it is my grandmother. My grandmother was almost totally deaf and hunched over at the waist. So, as the daughter to her daughter, I was the only friend to my crippled grandmother, and the only one who would ever take her side. As a result, I became used to communicating the recent news through hand gestures and body language, and really enjoy meeting with people.

I believe that God’s work is not about ability, but turning each meeting into an undeniable certainty that we are learning from each other, and living through God’s Word. Just as our Lord said, “Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me,” I believe that the church is where the members of Christ’s body meet head-on in a struggle to collide and break against each other. Yet between the pain in the cracks and the following soothing of each encounter, it cements and builds the wonderful kingdom of God. Some people, having discovered they have cancer, accept it and interpret it as a gift from God. They say to their children, “If I hadn’t known that I have cancer, I would later be ashamed of myself when I face Jesus, if I had lived only playing golf, talking about worldly things, and living without a care. I now sing hymns and tear up because of the heart-moving lyrics and can barely continue singing.” I have learned the virtue and passion of these faithful believers in Jesus.

As I look forward to Passion week, I meditate on the Lord Jesus, the Incarnate Son of God, Who came in human form just to meet me and did so by dying on the cross for us. As Jesus said to His beloved disciples during His Last Supper, “After I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” He promises that He will also meet us at “Galilee” just as He promised His disciples to comfort our despair and disappointment. Today, we live to create a community that builds up people. Let us not waste valuable time in negativity, but with God’s divine providence and irresistible love that fulfills the plan of His salvation. No matter how beautiful like a flower life can be, someday all flowers wither. On the Last Day, as we give account of our lives, let us not be ashamed, but we will be steadfast in God’s Word and be strong in all circumstances. May we share in our suffering together and have the hope of the Kingdom of God. I am confident that we have a foretaste of heaven and will experience the inevitable encounter in Christ Jesus.
