올해도 어김없이 MOD(Ministry Opportunity Day, 사역박람회)가 열리게 되었습니다. 총 103개의 사역을 소개하고, 섬기고 동역할 분들을 모신다니 정말 대단한 사역의 지경이 펼쳐져 있음을 봅니다. 하나님께서 베델교회에 많은 사역들을 허락하시고 아름답게 성장하게 하셨음을 확인할 수 있는데, 우리는 왜 교회 공동체에서 여러가지 사역들을 섬겨야 할까요? 가장 큰 이유는 교회의 머리가 되시는 우리 예수님이 이 땅에 섬기기 위해 오셨기 때문입니다.

“인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라.”(마20:28) 예수님을 따르고 예수님의 제자가 된 성도의 삶은 다른 사람을 위해 섬기는 삶이라 할 수 있습니다. 매사에 내 시간과 물질, 수고가 먼저라면 생색이 남지만, 주님께 받은 은혜와 사랑을 기억하며 주님을 닮아가려는 섬김은 예수님을 더욱 깊이 알아가는 기회가 됩니다.

“형제들아 너희가 자유를 위하여 부르심을 입었으나 그러나 그 자유로 육체의 기회를 삼지 말고 오직 사랑으로 서로 종 노릇하라.”(갈5:13) 우리 모두는 내게 주어진 시간 안에서 무엇이든 채울 수 있는 자유가 있습니다. 하지만 그 자유가 오롯이 ‘나’, ‘내 것’, ‘내 즐거움’으로만 채운다면 과연 참된 기쁨을 얻을 수 있을까요? 여러 일들을 섬기다 보면 좋을 때도 있지만 힘들고 어려운 일도 겪기 마련입니다. 사람과 사람이 함께 하다 보면 뜻하지 않는 오해와 감정의 소모들도 있지 않겠습니까? 하지만 말씀에 대한 반응으로, 사랑의 종 노릇을 서로 한다면 그 순종을 주님이 기뻐하시고, 비교할 수 없는 하나님의 기쁨이 우리 안에 충만하게 될 것을 믿습니다.

“각각 은사를 받은 대로 하나님의 여러 가지 은혜를 맡은 선한 청지기 같이 서로 봉사하라.”(벧전4:10) 은사는 성도 모두에게 선물과 같이 주어졌습니다. 내게 주어진 은사가 몇 개인지 정작 나는 정확히 모릅니다. 하지만 교회 공동체 안에서 기회로 주어지는 여러 봉사를 맡아 전심으로 섬기다 보면, 내 안에 감추어져 있던 은사를 발견하는 기쁨도 누리게 됩니다. 내가 하고 싶은 일을, 내가 원하는 인정을 받기 위해 섬기는 것이 아니라 여러 가지 은혜를 따라서 섬기다 보니 새로운 은사를 발견해서 좋고, 서로를 위한 봉사를 통해 공동체에서 누릴 수 있는 기쁨도 얻게 되는 것입니다.

오늘 예배 후 본당 문을 나서면 수많은 사역들이 우리를 기다리고 있습니다. 예수님을 따라가는 섬김의 자리로 성도님들을 초대합니다!

Place of Service

MOD(Ministry Opportunity Day) opens again this year as it always has been. Total of 103 ministries will be introduced, and they are looking for volunteers to serve. It’s going to be a truly remarkable event of ministries being unfolded. This is a confirmation that God has allowed many ministries at Bethel Church to grow beautifully. But why do we need to serve in ministries in church community? The biggest reason is that Jesus, who is the head of church, came to earth to serve.

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(Mat 20:28) Life of believer, as we follow Jesus and become His disciples, could be escribed as a life of serving others. If I prioritize my own time, resources, and effort in everything I do, it will only lead me seeking recognition and praise. But remembering God’s grace and love and live to emulate Him leads to opportunity to get to know Jesus more deeply.

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”(Gal 5:13) We have freedom to fill time with whatever we choose to do. However, if we filled it with only ‘I’, ‘mine’, and ‘my joy’, can we truly be happy? As we serve in many ministries, we will inevitably experience good times as well as hard and difficult tasks. When we work with others, wont’ there be unexpected misunderstandings and emotional fatigue? But, in response to His Word, if we serve one another through love, I believe that God will rejoice in our obedience. We will be filled with His rejoicing that cannot be compared.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied Grace.”(1Pe 4:10) Spiritual gifts are given to all believers. We don’t know exactly how many spiritual gifts will be given to us. However, as we serve in various opportunities in the church community, we rejoice in discovering hidden spiritual gifts in us. This is not about serving to receive recognitions for doing something you like to do. As we serve according to various graces, we will be happy to discover new spiritual gifts and joy in serving others in our community.

Today, many ministries are waiting for you as you go out from main sanctuary after the worship. I invite all of you to join them in the place of service, following the footsteps of Jesus.
